Dear Santa,

Thank you very much for giving us a Democratic victory in H.D. 97. It was just what I wanted before Christmas.

I’d like to ask for some very meaningful gifts for the people of Texas:

• A new Democratic US Senator who will work for Texas, not George Bush
• A Texas House Speaker who doesn’t silence our representatives.>/li>
• A Democratic majority in the Texas House and gains in the Texas Senate.
• Judges and Justices –from the United States Supreme Court on down — who are not bought by the special interest groups and who respect the fundamental values of all people
• For Harris County to turn Blue!
• A few more Democratic U.S. Representatives
• And most of all, a Democratic President!!

In other words, Santa, could we have a Democratic sweep this election?

We Democrats have been very, very good this year. We expanded the CHIP rolls. We raised the minimum wage and passed ethics reform to clean up the mess the Republicans left in Washington. We’ve made America safer by implementing the recommendations of the 9/11 Commission.

I’m afraid, however, that there are some Republicans who deserve coal in their stockings, as they have not been good boys and girls — I know that you have these folks on your naughty list! Luckily, for the people of Texas, we have good folks who care about children and health care. Those folks go on your nice list.

Santa, what I really want is not political. I want my grandchildren to be able to have access to a good education in order to grow up and be productive citizens; for all hard-working Texas families to have access to affordable health care; and the opportunity to build a better future for the next generation.

Last, but certainly not least, Santa, we Democrats want nothing more than Peace on Earth.
