Democratic National Convention set for Denver

Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean announced today that Denver, Colorado will host the 2008 Democratic National Convention on Monday, August 25 through Thursday, August 28. The options have been between Denver and New York for the past few months. Dean claimed that the bids from both cities have made the decision "enormously difficult."

Every four years (prior to a Presidential election) the Democratic National Committee meets in order to accomplish two key things. First, who will be the Democratic Presidential and Vice Presidential nominee. Delegates from across the country come together to cast their vote for the nominee based on the primary that won within their state. The second order of business is deciding the party's platform for that election year. It's very exciting for anyone who has an interest in the works of the Democratic Party.

Dean feels that "the West is important to the future of the Democratic Party," and hosting the convention there will be a symbol of that. Also, Democratic turnout during the recent elections in the West reflects that when Democrats work together "we can win in any part of the country." Dean claimed that "New York is a wonderful city but in the end, it was the strength of Denver's bid that made it the best choice." Advocates for hosting the Democratic National Convention in Denver claim that it is the perfect location because Denver is "vibrant, diverse, centrally located, city with the positive attitude and modern facilities and infrastructure for a successful Democratic National Convention."

So, anyone interested in attending the convention will want to get there early to enjoy the weather. The 2008 race for the White House will be a bumpy ride, and once the Democratic National Convention begins you will want to hold on and enjoy it.
