Democrats Outraged at Destruction of C.I.A. Tapes

The CIA destroyed at least two video tapes of interrogations of al-Queda operatives, Abu Zubaydah and another unnamed detainee. The destruction of the tapes came during allegations of unlawful detainment and torture practices.

C.I.A. Director Michael Hayden announced the information after the New York Times contacted the department to inform them of a story they would be running. Hayden >made the announcement because "...we may see misinterpretations of the facts in the days ahead."

Democratic leaders in the House and Senate are calling for investigations into the situation. Senator Edward Kennedy has been vocal in the need for an investigation into a potential CIA cover-up. Kennedy compares the situation to the missing Watergate tapes. The CIA cites the need to hide the identity of the agents as reason for burning the tapes. Kennedy remarks that all recordings of interrogations should be burned under that logic.

The C.I.A. has a huge problem on its hands, and things won't be looking up for them for a while.

Grammar

Please note that the possessive of "it", "its" does not have an apostrophe. "It's" is a contraction of "it is". This is a common mistake, but you should have learned this in English class at school!

Slinging Copy

Write enough copy, and typos will work their way in somewhere, no matter how good one's English skills. Fault for missing that one would properly lie at the feet of your humble editors. Our apologies.

Thanks!

One of these days I'll (I will) be perfect, and everybody will be happy! Until then, IT'S nice to have someone looking out for me. Thanks!
