Even more candidates

In case you live under a rock, Hillary Clinton announced that she is running for President. She already has a lot of money, so the exploratory committee is more by default than anything else.

Also, New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson announced late this week, and despite having one of the most impressive careers in American politics and a wealth of foreign policy and diplomatic experience that is essentially unrivaled by th entire Democratic field except maybe for Joe Biden, he's what we in the business call "an absolute longshot with very little chance to win."

At the very least, the media will stop postulating on when she will announce, unless they decide to start pondering when the official official declaration will happen. That kind of hair-splitting drives news junkies like me to homicidal rage.

Hillary has already begun with the cutesy campaign stuff: on her website you can register to become a dedicated fundraiser for her efforts and use some online tools to do so. Once you register, you become - get this - a Hillraiser. I just... I just wanted to share that.

There's A Blog Being Written

...right now. With Brownback officially in, Richardson officially in and Clinton officially in, it's time for that blog you asked me about the Presidential field back on one of my earlier comments.

Fascinating dynamics; I feel bad for Bill Richardson. From an IR/comparative background, I'd love to see someone with his accomplishments in the White House and as a Texan, I think the whole "first Hispanic President" angle could extend Democratic mobilization in Texas in the Hispanic community.

But with this field it's not going to matter much what he's going to bring to the table.
