It's the Pitts

In a final update on the Speaker's race for today, it seems as if some sort of deal has been struck. Rather than Pitts endorsing early bird McCall, it seems as if the opposite will happen and a voting bloc consolidation will occur as a result. Statesman has the story.

Could this spell the end of Craddick's speakership? I think so. Otherwise, I doubt Pitts would be staging a press conference tomorrow at 4 if there was some chance he could lose. Craddick didn't get to where he is by being a sap, though, so I'll hold off on officially calling it until tomorrow brings more details.

TX House Dems Should Oust Craddick

House Dems are the key to ousting Craddick. His corruption and autocrtatic leadership style has spurred Repubs of all political stripes to revolt. Dems who stay with Craddick are choosing to forgoe voting their conscious and districts to enhance their peronal political power. It is a high risk gamble that we won't forget no matter who ends up speaker.

A consolidation

Not that I'm justifying either way, but would you say it is also a risk gamble to move against Craddick for some of those Democrats?

RE: Democrats should not get too invested in the Pitts

Deomcrats ought not get into to much of a hurry to embrace Pitts. We don't want to have to defend some of the things the Waxahachie Republican has done or will have to do to get elected in his district. Plus, there is no ssign he is committed to any of our issues, instead he is only committed to opposing our enemy Craddick because of how he has overseen the Legislative process with an iron fist.

Pitts ain't Craddick, but he ain't one of us!

Re: Pitts

Fair enough, but what is an alternative course of action? No Democrat can win the race, so they've got to vote for somebody. I agree with you, I just don't know what the other choices are.
