Kay Bailey: I Will Not Seek Re-election To Leadership Post

This afternoon, Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison announced that she will not seek re-election to the #4 spot in the Senate Republican leadership. Per the Dallas Morning News' Wayne Slater, the language she used points in a rather obvious direction:

AUSTIN – In the strongest signal yet that Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison intends to run for governor, the Texas senator told Republican colleagues Thursday that she won’t seek re-election to a top GOP leadership position.

At a closed-door luncheon on Capitol Hill, Ms. Hutchison told fellow GOP senators she will give up the No. 4 spot "in order to explore new opportunities that many Texans have asked me to consider."

Given the idea that they who show up first with the most win, will the GOP pie fight between Perry and Hutchison commence before or after November 4th? Stay tuned!

Door Opening...

I think this may open the door wider for Congressman Chet Edwards to run for Senate in 2010.
