McCain Ahead By Only 8 in Texas?

A new Rasmussen poll shows McCain leading Obama by only 8 here in Texas, 52-44.

This poll seems pretty consistent with other polls that are showing the state at about an 8-9 point margin, which is the same margin as the supposed battleground state of Pennsylvania. While Texas is clearly a pipe dream for the Obama campaign, I'm sure they wouldn't mind the state being 'Too Close To Call,' even if it's only for fifteen minutes on election night.

Why is it close here in Texas? It's tough to say — though remember that Huckabee did quite well here in the Republican primary, even though the race was over. Could it be there's not a lot of Republican enthusiasm for McCain in the state? Food for thought.

McCain Leads by 8

I wonder if the primary cell phone users were included in the poll? It is encouraging to see that we are only down by 8. That has to be good news for Noriega since the only poll I have seen was taken back in June. I also have to be concerned that the Republicans have yet to get with the program since it is still Summer. I agree with Chuck Todd and some of the other poll watchers out there that the first polls after the conventions will be a true indicator.

Thanks,

John Richie
