Radovan Karadzic Arrested

Radovan Karadzic, the former President of the rump Bosnian Serb government and indicted war criminal, was arrested Monday in Serbia.

Karadzic, a former psychiatrist and former President of the the Bosnian Serb government, was arrested by Serbian secret police outside of Belgrade, where he was long thought to have been living a secret life as a Serbian Orthodox priest. There was no word on the circumstances of Karadzic's arrest. His arrest now leaves Bosnian Serb General Ratko Mladic as the last remaining major Serbian figure to face an accounting of his conduct during the 1990s. General Mladic was the commander of Bosnian Serb forces and is thought to be living under the protection of radical nationalists in Serbia.

Wow.

It's been so long since this has been on the national radar, I went "who?" for a split second. There was something about Karadzic on the BBC several weeks ago.

I'm surprised I almost forgot who he was since the Bosnian conflict was "all the rage" for questions on UIL Current Issues & Events tests in the 1990s (when I was a district champ three years running in CI&E).
