Rasmussen: Cornyn 47% Noriega 43%

Rasmussen has a poll on our very own Texas Senate race out today that shows incumbent Junior Senator John Cornyn at 47% and Democratic challenger Rick Noriega at 43%.

What interests me in the non-premium numbers provided by Rasmussen are the "very unfavorable" numbers. Cornyn's number in this category is 13% to Noriega's 17%. In my mind, I'd translate anyone who is "very unfavorable" towards a candidate at this stage of the election as someone who will not be persuadable. I am somewhat surprised that Cornyn's number is lower than Noriega's number in this category given the relatively early stage of this contest and Cornyn's less-than-distinguished record of kulturkampf and laying low in his term as a Senator. However, when I stop to consider the relative context of those two numbers in the Texas polity, 17% seems a little low for those who are rabidly against any Democrat.

What to y'all think?

Right on target

I think that's a particularly salient point. In a state where people used to hide their allegiance to the Democratic Party for fear of destitution, ridicule, and scorn, 17% seems pretty low. Although still ridiculous.
