They Must Be Doing Something Right

Peter Stern just sent me this email that's making the rounds among Texas Republicans. You usually only see these kinds of emails when the GOP is trying to whip their people into a panicked frenzy. It includes the usual litany of ridiculous claims:

House Democrats Continue Obstruction of Legislative Session

“Point Of Order” Scheme Attempts to Kill GOP’s "Texas First" Agenda

I'm not sure I can remember the last time the GOP put Texas first, but ok.

Austin - Last night the House Democrat Caucus continued its scheme of obstructing progress for all Texans by its incessant use of manipulative tactics to kill or seriously jeopardize hundreds of pieces of legislation. Liberals like Jim “Do Nothing” Dunnam and Garnet “You’ll Get Nothing and Like It” Coleman have systematically used a “point of order” ploy to stall and/or kill legislation by groping for non-substantive technical errors in the bills in attempts to render them ineligible for further consideration.

I like that Republicans are masters and wizards of parliamentary procedure when they want to kill something, but when valid arguments or points of order are made against something they like, it is something to be derided. Way to go, guys. That makes a ton of sense.

“Do Nothing” Dunnam and “Get Nothing” Coleman are leading their liberal cohorts in attempts to kill all legislation, even otherwise non-controversial matters. This manipulation should embarrass them but will not go unnoticed by their constituents come election time,” said Hans Klingler, Spokesman for the Texas GOP.

I'm pretty sure they aren't trying to kill all legislation. That wouldn't do anyone any good.

For example, last week State Representative Betty Brown (R-Terrell) authored a bill that would have allowed a memorial to victims killed by a drunk driver in her East Texas district. State Representative Trey Martinez Fischer (D-San Antonio) used a “point of order” to knock the bill out of consideration. Despite these efforts, Rep. Brown finally got the bill passed. During that same time, Texas House Democrats were also trying to kill the bill that would have provided funding for border security and technology for law enforcement to help in controlling our borders.

“Nothing is more important than securing our borders, but the liberal members of the Texas House Democrat Caucus seem bent on not only obstructing progress but also destroying the process,” Klingler went on to say.

Wow. You know how I feel about the Homeland Security bill — people are having issues with it because the bill is problematic, and it hasn't been put together very well. I also like how "point of order" is in quotations, as if it is something that doesn't really exist, like unicorns. If anyone else sees things like this, let us know.

Hans "Ad Hominem" Klingler

Am I alone in thinking that a guy named Hans Klingler sounds like the perfect Republican spokesman?

I wonder how long it took him to come up with such creative nicknames as "Do Nothing" and "Get Nothing?"

I'm guessing not too long since all Mr. Klingler had to do was look at Texas Republicans' record on financing education ("Do Nothing" until the special session) and Texas Republicans' record on kicking children off the CHIP rolls (those kids sure "Got Nothing").

Isn't Hans Klinger a German name?

And instead of Homeland Security, why don't we name it "Der Vaterland Sekurity"?

But seriously folks, it's this type of hype driven by both parties that makes me sick of the two-party system. Usually, the GOP gets this gaga when the Democrats are taking in almost as much campaign dollars as it is.

Fear is the theme in politics these days, not platforms and issues.

Where are the great "public servants" of yester-year? Eisenhower, Truman, the Roosevelts (F & T), Lincoln?

Today most of our lawmakers aren't worth the "spit" on their "spit-shined" sneakers! Psssst!!! Many of them carry concealed weapons legally, but I shouldn't share that with you. There's legislation pending to keep that info sealed from the public. "Only the Shadow knows!"

Getting back to the point, the GOP is only one party and it needs the DNC to balance the "scales of [political] justice" --- if there's any such thing.

The two-party system in America is a thing of the past. It doesn't work for the people any more. Both parties are money hungry, out of fresh creative ideas, and in a maze of indifference to the American people.

Verrry interesting --- but very stupid!

Oh man

Was that a Hogan's Heroes reference? It was, wasn't it?

No, not Hogan's heroes...

... the old Laugh-In show, Artie's German character. You may not be old enough to know that one, unless you saw the reruns. Guess I just gave away my old age! lol

Do nothing and get nothing....

I've often wondered just how much better off we'd be if the legislature truly "did nothing". Nothing is safe when the lege is in session. I guess we have to fix and undo all the Republican crap first.

The TX Lege is in session, hold on to your wallet!

Someday instead of meeting for 140 days every two years the lege will meet for two days every 140 years.

Democratically yours
