Thompson Mercifully, Eventually Calls It Quits
Tue, 01/22/2008 - 2:01pm
Fred Thompson, swirling the drain ever since his bizarre speech on Saturday night, made it official today as he bailed out of the race. Oh Fred, we hardly knew ye.
I heard some pundit the other day talking about how there seemed to be certain things Fred liked about running for president — usually the parts where people would clap for him and he would get on stage and talk about stuff he wanted to talk about for a spell &mdas; but that he seemed to have no use for most of presidential politics.
Could Fred have been a contender? I still think he could have, if he'd really been into it at all, but he more or less became a non-starter due to his own lack of enthusiasm. And so, another Republican is out, joining the ranks of some other guys who couldn't get it together. You were goofy, and you phoned it in, but you have at least given us a rarity in national politics: the disinterested presidential candidate.

Here I thought I was going to have plenty of time to write about Fred's bizarre "sounded-like-a-concession-without-being-a-concession" speech from Saturday evening because, let's face it, the guy doesn't exactly move fast.
But here, once, he moved fast enough to beat me to the byline.
Au revoir to the Presidential candidate who was the closest thing to a glass of warm milk with an Ambien chaser in my political lifetime.

"Ye" don't know him at all.
Which makes you incapable of your own governance.
AND "enthusiasm" is not a requirement of a president but, it is the only aspersion snivelers have to offer which made him the ideal candidate all by itself.

Wow, a spirited defense of Fred Thompson and an arbitrary O'Rourke quote. Well done. You're a credit to Fredhead Nation.

It took three months for you to get around to denouncing us?
Are you trying to out-slow Fred?

I wanted to respond earlier, but taking so short an amount of time to a response three months in the making seemed like an unfair advantage to leverage.
Not knowing Fred makes us "incapable of our own governance?" Man, this explains why Congo can't hold a stable democracy. Somebody send Thompson over there, stat! Maybe he'll bore the conflict out of existence.
Incapable of our own governance. Please.
