Too Soon?

John Edwards and Hillary Clinton are calling each other out. Yesterday at Harlem's Riverside Church, where Dr. Martin Luther King called for US forces to pull out of Vietnam 40 years ago, John Edwards called on the members of Congress to take a stand against the new Bush plan:

That's why Congress must step up and stop the president from putting more troops in harm's way. If you're in Congress and you know this war is going in the wrong direction, it is no longer enough to study your options and keep your own counsel. Silence is betrayal. Speak out, and stop this escalation now. You have the power to prohibit the president from spending any money to escalate the war, use it.

Hillary has been in Iraq for a week. She's stated that she would have voted differently on the Iraq War vote in hindsight, and she's been in Iraq and Afghanistan for several days on a troops / diplomacy trip. Her campaign released a statement with some angry words for Mr. Edwards:

"In 2004, John Edwards used to constantly brag about running a positive campaign. Today, he has unfortunately chosen to open his campaign with political attacks on Democrats who are fighting the Bush administration's Iraq policy," said Clinton adviser Howard Wolfson.

At the end of this whole thing, they may end up off each other's Christmas lists.

Bah Hillary!

It's funny how Hillary wasn't named by Edwards but yet she knew he was talking about her. Sounds like guilt.

Silence is betrayal.

Hillary Vetting Republicans

Did you happen to hear Chuck Todd on "Softball"* tonight? He told Chris Matthews that Hillary's campaign is actively looking at Republicans for her Vice Presidential candidate.

Todd also said that he felt both Clinton and Obama would be taking steps to officially enter the race this week.

*I can't really call "Hardball" by its name because Matthews lies down so much for Republicans.

Thanks Senator Edwards!

I am thrilled to have a Democratic candidate who takes a strong stand on Iraq policy.

In an email to his supporters last week, Edwards called for the immediate withdraw of 40,000-50,000 U.S. troops from Iraq, arguing the U.S. must begin to withdraw to force the Iraqis to seek a political solution for themselves.

He was right to call on Congress to stop the troop surge (or escalation, or augmentation, or whatever they are calling it today).

Thanks for stepping up Senator Edwards!
