About this Writer

A veteran of thirty-five years in political consulting, Gerry Tyson founded The Tyson Organization in 1983 after spending twelve years with another voter contact firm. He has worked on hundreds of Democratic and nonpartisan campaigns in virtually every state, and the firm's clients have run the gamut from the court house to the White House.

Tyson has participated in numerous workshops on targeting strategies, voter contacts and grassroots organization for state and national Democratic parties, as well as at conferences sponsored by Campaigns & Elections magazine, the American Association of Political Consultants (AAPC) and other organizations. He has helped bridge academia and political practice through roundtable discussions at academic conferences and colloquia, and enjoys speaking to student groups, including the occasional political science class at TCU.

A former Board Member of the AAPC, Tyson holds bachelor's and master's degrees in political science and public administration from Texas Christian University. He and his wife Meralen enjoy the arts, as well as their Art and Crafts home, where they host fundraising receptions for progressive causes and Democratic candidates. They serve on the steering committee of the Mimir Chamber Music Festival and are patrons of the Fort Worth Symphony.
