Computer Tech Claims that FBI has Unrestricted Access into Cell Phone Company's Records

In this wired.com blog, a computer security consultant allleges that a major wireless provider intentionally left its customer information open to the FBI's electronic surveillance program in Quantico, VA. The whistle-blower's statement draws heavy suspicion on Verizon. In true conspiracy theory style, Verizon can neither confirm or deny these claims.

SUSA Results For Map-Lovers

The differences in who wins which states are interesting enough to merit their own commentary, but here's the SUSA maps while I'm hammering that out.

Interesting News from SurveyUSA

SurveyUSA conducted a very large poll, running surveys of what-if scenarios in all 50 states in regards to the general election. It is fun enough to know, as of right now, both Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama win the general election against John McCain.

A Plain Stratification

Put the following two items side by side and consider who has benefited from all these years of Republican leadership. Item 1) The Labor Department reports that 63,000 jobs were cut through February, which amounts to the biggest drop in five years. Item 2) Three mortgage company CEOs (Citigroup, Merrill Lynch, and Countrywide) made $460 million in 2007.

7 Inches of Snow in 4 Hours

When they issue a winter storm warning these days, they mean it.

Obama's February Haul: $55 Million

The number is impressive, but consider that he's raised $193 million in total. That means he raised almost half his money in January and February of this year alone.

The Superdelegates That Didn't Bark

Most primaries are followed by a cascade of endorsements and superdelegate commitments. These usually go to the winner, although Obama has also used big endorsements (Kerry, Kennedy) to blunt the impact of a loss. So why did nothing happen on Wednesday? As far as I can tell, not a single superdelegate committed to either side.

Lupe Valdez Already Whipping Republicans

Obviously Dallas Sheriff Lupe Valdez had a big night when she won the Democratic primary outright against 3 challengers. But did you know that more people voted for Sheriff Valdez in a four-way race than voted for all the Republican candidates for sheriff combined?

Plenty of Steam Building for Michigan Re-Vote

Courtesy of my father, who lives in Michigan: even the local media is getting in on the re-vote idea, and the public opinion seems to be tilted heavily towards doing it again. The 'firehouse' idea sounds interesting, but I can't imagine that Florida and Michigan will have primary contests that do not generate massive turnout.

A Mulligan of Epic Proportions

After the DNC firmed up on what scenarios could possibly lead to seated delegates for Michigan and Florida, it became apparent that despite some occasionally varied message, the Clinton campaign is signaling that holding new primary contests in those two states is a viable option. Seems like this might actually be happening.
