The Texas Blue: News

A Lot More Than Couch Cushion Change

Clinton campaign adviser Terry McCauliffe was on MSNBC earlier this afternoon with this amazing fundraising news:

On MSNBC a few minutes ago Terry McCauliffe announced the Hillary Clinton campaign raised $10 million online "with 50,000 brand new donors" since the polls closed in Pennsylvania last night.

That is very impressive, particularly the 50,000 new donors part.

If you do, you may enjoy this tale about how he got pied at Brown University. I like that in the 21st Century, the thrown pie is still a tool of social criticism.

News Roundup, 4/23/08: The Rorschach Primary

All day yesterday, the psychological number to merit success for Senator Hillary Clinton was ten. The media, the occasional campaign spokesperson, and the man on the street agreed that she had to win by ten points in the Pennsylvania primary to, for lack of a better term, keep hope alive. And wouldn't you know it, that's just what she did?

Delegate Numbers

Before Pennsylvania, Obama was ahead by about 164 pledged delegates and 140 total delegates, with 562 delegates left to be voted on. It looks like Clinton gained 12 delegates in Pennsylvania, trimming Obama's lead to 152 pledged delegates and 128 total delegates, with 404 delegates left to be voted on. There are also 308 still-undecided superdelegates. Almost half (187) of the remaining pledged delegates will be decided in 2 weeks, in North Carolina (115) and Indiana (72).

Looks Like The Keystone State Will Go For Clinton

UPDATE: With 90% of precincts reporting, Clinton leads Obama 55% to 45%.

With roughly 50% of Pennsylvania precincts reporting, Senator Hillary Clinton is projected to win Pennsylvania by all the big cable outlets. With 51% reporting, the results are:

Candidate / Pct% / # Delegates

Clinton 54 28
Obama 46 19

We're in the midst of Category 5 spin from the campaigns and on all the cable outlets. You can be guaranteed that this is one storm that won't be abating any time soon.

A little bit of data on early exit polls from CBS. The highpoints include the economy being the leading issue. 10% of voters made up their minds today.

DNC Mailer on McCain

The DNC has plans to drop some lit in mailboxes across the country concerning John McCain and his similarities to a certain President of the United States:

The DNC chairman contends that McCain is, in fact, “as conservative as they come,” and his administration would preserve “the radical right’s hateful social agenda.” He adds, “Like President Bush,” McCain follows a “shoot first, ask questions second” foreign policy strategy, supports tax cuts for the wealthy as well as corporations that ship jobs overseas, and promises to appoint “Bush-style” judges who will overturn Roe vs. Wade.

CNN has some video that won't surprise most of our readers but that ought to make you angry nonetheless.
