What Wall?

It seems the 700-mile wall along the U.S. Mexico border might have been more an election year stunt than an actual plan to stop illegal immigration.

Secretary of Homeland Security Michael Chertoff met with Senator Hutchison, Senator Cornyn, and seven Texas border city mayors in D.C. Wednesday. The mayors made a case against the wall and asked the administration to consider other options for stemming the tide of illegal immigrants. The mayors advocate increased use of technology and border agents to protect the border.

Congress authorized the wall last fall based on an estimate that it would cost $2.1 billion. Current estimates say it will be closer to $60 billion. Funding has not been approved for the wall, and the legislation has been put on the backburner until it can be revisited.

Fences make good neighbors.

TX is a State filled with fences. Why ?

The federal govt. lacks the will to enforce immigration laws and is dragging it's heels in the construction of a border fence. Homeland Security would rather give big contracts to defense contractors for a virtual fence. To date this unproven technology has failed.

I believe we need to TURN OFF the JOB MAGNET. If yoo're illegal and can't find a job, you may go back home. You certainly will not be able to send money home. You'll be telling your friends back home, to stay there. "Stay in your homeland, jobs aren't vailable for illegals."

This can be accomplished with work place enforcement. Force every employer to verify all social security numbers (SSN) with the federal govt. They can use the E-verify program. It's quick and easy to use. Presently, employers do NOT verify social security numbers. Anyone could use your SSN to get a job. The SSA will never tell you someone else is also using your number. False documents only cost $150 and are just as successful.

The required legislation is called the Save Act- HR 4088. Call your congressman today and ask him / her to co-sponsor the SAVE Act - HR 4088.
