On The Record: Travis Biggs
Sun, 03/25/2007 - 12:46pm
For this installment, I spoke with Travis Biggs, former Denton City Council candidate and candidate for Denton County Democratic Party Chair in the upcoming special election.
The Dick Bait And Switch
By Josh Davis
Sun, 03/25/2007 - 10:06am
Most people don’t like Dick Cheney. According to a recent CBS poll, Dick has an 18% favorable rating. That’s pretty bad. But not that bad since Dick isn’t running for president in ’08. So he probably doesn’t care what people think of him — he’s gonna be Dick regardless of the country’s opinion of him.
The Edwards family has tough expectations to live up to

The Edwards family has some fairly tough expectations to live up to. They dealt with political defeat and life changing illness within a 24 hour period and did it with grace and strength. They've lived through the loss of a child with caring, love, and courage. How does a family live up to that legacy?
Iowa Thunderdome: Vilsack to Endorse Clinton
Fri, 03/23/2007 - 2:47pm
While not exactly breaking news, it came out that former Iowa governor Tom Vilsack has plans to officially endorse Senator Hillary Clinton. There are some serious implications to what happens in Iowa during the presidential primary, so this, as we professionals say, is a big deal.
Not Our Pork
Fri, 03/23/2007 - 12:59pm
Why are congressional Democrats and Democratic analysts letting themselves be blamed for the pork in the Iraq spending bill?
Fuzzy Electoral Math Gets A Little Clearer
Fri, 03/23/2007 - 11:49am
Earlier this week, I wrote a piece about the potential impact of California moving its primary up in the electoral calendar. In this piece, I mentioned that there were several other states currently considering moving their primaries up.
Scratch "considering" and make that "finalizing," at least for two big players.
Friday Roundup: Direct from 10 Downing
Fri, 03/23/2007 - 10:10am
I am back from London, and the Texas political news seems as if it hasn't changed much since I got on a plane and flew halfway across the world last Saturday morning. For instance, the ongoing story on the TYC scandal continues to be about who knew what and when did they know it, and that circle of questions is starting to zero in on the Governor's office.
Bill Tracker: SB 1564 – 3 Year Ban for Allegations

Our procedure for getting a license to sell alcohol is very thorough. Our state is unique in the sense that in addition to a standard statewide procedure, we also have home rule municipalities that dictate alcohol sales to a degree. One of the main questions that can affect the decisions within a municipality is, “Can we trust this license holder?”
Trigger Happy in Texas
Thu, 03/22/2007 - 1:57pm
Every Christmas I watch A Christmas Story. Ralphie desperately wants a Red Ryder BB rifle; however, his mother constantly denies him, warning, "You’ll shoot your eye out." The Texas legislature has displayed its Ralphie tendencies as the House and Senate passed SB378, which allows for employees to "protect" their workplace and car with a concealed weapon. Using previous bills that create the legal framework called the "castle doctrine," which allows for a person to protect themselves in their home, the Texas legislature extended the right to self-defense to the workplace and vehicles.
Elizabeth Edwards Diagnosed with Cancer; Edwards Campaign Continues
Thu, 03/22/2007 - 11:07am
It is impossible to write about John Edwards' press conference without first mentioning Elizabeth Edwards' indomitable attitude when dealing with times of trouble. We Texans consider ourselves fortunate to have had a number of strong women in the public eye whose presence was almost larger than life. It is significant, then, that seeing Elizabeth Edwards unscripted in front of the press brought up recollections for me of Molly Ivins' own struggles against cancer. No one can envy her position, but her composure and strength in a situation like this are laudable.
