Study: Cell Phone Use Linked to Cancer

Sift through today's news long enough and you might come across some really bad news for cell phone users. A new study claims that using cell phones for 10 years can double the risk of brain cancer. The study, by award-winning neurosurgeon Dr. Vini Khurana, claims that cell phone use could be more deadly than smoking or asbestos exposure.

Another Bush Crony Bails Out

Alphonso Jackson, Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, resigned today. Jackson was under investigation by the Department of Justice, the FBI, and his own department's inspector general for allegations of political favoritism.

In a Post-Bush World, Will Fox News Matter?

Loved by its right-wing viewers and vilified as a Bush propaganda machine by the left, Fox News established itself as the major news network during the Bush administration. They defined coverage of the Iraq war, for better or worse. It might not be "fair" or "balanced," or even terribly accurate, but that hasn't stopped Fox from being the number one news channel.

Senate Majority Leader Hints at End to the Race Before August

Suspense is building over the race to take on McCain, but unlike most Democrats, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid doesn't seem too concerned. "Things are being done" within the Democratic party to end the drawn-out primary contest, according to Reid.

Puerto Rico Primary Approved

Obama has not announced specific plans for Puerto Rico, but the governor is an Obama supporter.

Some say that John McCain is getting a boost from the protracted Democratic nomination. If so, he may need that extra help, because the GOP is hardly in top form for 2008. In many states, the Republican party is facing low registration numbers, diminished funding, and of course, scandal.

White House Disposes Hard Drives, Stymies Federal Inquiry

In its latest attempt to squirm away from scrutiny, the White House has told a federal court that there is no point in looking for millions of its e-mails, because they destroy old hard drives. Every year, the White House says, they "refresh" one third of the Executive Office workstations, and while some files are transferred, they don't keep all the data.

US Calls for Another Troop Surge in Iraq... from the British

The US military will ask Britain to launch a new "surge" to deal with violence in the city of Basra. Judging from this story, it seems that British officials are unsurprisingly reluctant to increase their military commitment to Iraq. Given the widespread anti-war sentiment in Britain, this latest announcement should go over splendidly.
