Tom Craddick: Travelling in Style

A watchdog group filed an ethics complaint against House Speaker Tom Craddick on Tuesday over some of his travel expenses. Craddick spent $13,513.40 for a charter jet to attend a prominent Republican's funeral, and $1,800 to take his wife with him to a conference in Lithuania. The Committee to Expose Dishonest and Incompetent Attorneys and Judges contends that these expenses were an excessive and illegal use of campaign funds.

Scarborough's Surreptitious On-Air Snacking

Joe Scarborough was caught sneaking a bite of a brownie during the premiere of MSNBC's "Race for the White House." The "Morning Joe" host apparently couldn't wait for the commercial break, and was caught on camera with his chocolate snack in hand. His chagrined grimace on realizing his mistake is priceless.

More Bad News on Energy Prices: Texas Electricity Bills Up 21 Percent

The Star-Telegram reports that electricity prices have risen 21 percent since Feburary 21-only six weeks ago. The increase is tied to the price of natural gas, which is also on the rise, and energy experts predict that higher prices now will mean a bigger-than-usual rate increase over the summer.

3 a.m. Girl Supports Obama

Clinton’s "3 a.m. phone call" ad is popularly assumed to have given her an edge in last Tuesday’s primaries. Now it turns out that one of the two children sleeping under the watchful eye of future President Clinton is a seventeen-year-old Obama volunteer and precinct captain. The Clinton campaign purchased the stock footage featuring Casey Knowles from Getty Images. Knowles, who was unaware of the ad until her family caught it on a "Daily Show" parody, joked that she should do a counter-ad with Barack Obama. According to this AP story, the Obama campaign has already contacted her.
