Rosenthal Resigns

Harris County District Attorney Chuck Rosenthal resigned his post today. He has had some trouble recently over a few hundred errant emails, among other things. The Houston Chronicle's Peggy O'Hare has the story.

News Roundup, 2/15/08: A Straight Talk Express, Racing Against the Past

Mitt Romney endorsed John McCain yesterday, thus delivered a potential 280 delegates or so. This presents a difficulty for Huckabee, who doesn't even have as many delegates as Romney had to give, but who also swears to continue on undeterred.

Obama (Already) Wins Virginia

Well that was fast, and apparently decisive: NBC News is already calling Virginia for Barack Obama. In the other side of that dichotomy, it is too close to call on the GOP side, which might mean bad things for John McCain.

News Digest, 2/12/08: A Big Day On The Potomac

The big news yesterday concerned the dynamic between Huckabee and McCain, and that relationship will likely only get more complicated today as Maryland, Virginia, and Washington D.C. head to the polls and more delegates are handed out.

News Digest, 2/11/08: A Very Busy Weekend

If you enjoy weekends where many important things happen in national politics, this last one was built just for you. It doesn't hurt to have had a bunch of primaries and caucuses, but there was more to this weekend than voting.

Congressman Tom Lantos Passes Away

AP is reporting that Congressman Tom Lantos of California has died. More details as they emerge.

In Maine, Obama Picks Up Fourth Weekend Win

The Maine caucus went to Barack Obama, making him four-for-four in Democratic contests over the weekend. The weather was bad but turnout was good, as has been the case in the whole election season. Next big contests happen in Tuesday's Potomac Primary, as D.C., Maryland, and Virginia head to the polls. Virginia is the big deal, so keep an eye out.

News Digest, 2/8/08: A Mittmentous Decision

Yesterday was a surprising day. Whereas it was assumed that McCain had the nomination locked up, he became the presumptive nominee yesterday when Mitt Romney snuffed out his own campaign (and his dignity) on stage at CPAC.

Romney Out

MSNBC reports that Romney "will suspend" his presidential campaign. More as this develops. If you want something fun to speculate about, consider what this means for Huckabee's performance in Texas.

Some Late Thoughts

There's going to be plenty to examine tomorrow, but some of the finer points from this evening are immediately apparent.
